ScreenRivet Support

ScreenRivet is designed to work entirely on your Mac. No account is required.

Quick start

Screenshots

  1. 1.Start Take Screenshot.
  2. 2.Hover and click a window, drag a region, or click the desktop for a display.
  3. 3.Choose Annotate, Copy, Save, or Cancel.

Recording

  1. 1.Choose Record.
  2. 2.Select a display, window, or region.
  3. 3.Choose System Audio, Microphone, or both.
  4. 4.Test inputs.
  5. 5.Start recording.

Manual Rivet

  1. 1.Start Manual Rivet.
  2. 2.Capture multiple steps.
  3. 3.Add each capture to the Rivet.
  4. 4.Stop and edit the guide.

Smart Rivet

  1. 1.Start Smart Rivet.
  2. 2.Choose the scope.
  3. 3.Grant Input Monitoring when requested.
  4. 4.Perform the process.
  5. 5.Pause, resume, or stop.
  6. 6.Edit the generated guide.

Permissions guide

How ScreenRivet uses macOS permissions
PermissionUsed for
Screen RecordingScreenshots, recording, and Rivet screenshots.
MicrophoneRecording only when Microphone is enabled.
Input MonitoringSmart Rivet mouse-click observation only while Smart Rivet is active. It does not observe typed text.
AccessibilityOptional, read-only access for improved control names. It does not control other applications.
File AccessDestinations explicitly selected through macOS Save or Folder dialogs.

Troubleshooting

App running but no window
  • Click the ScreenRivet menu-bar icon and choose Open ScreenRivet.
  • Click the Dock icon to reopen the main window.
Screenshots do not start
  • Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
  • Open Screen & System Audio Recording and enable ScreenRivet.
  • Quit and reopen ScreenRivet when macOS requests it.
No microphone audio
  • Confirm Microphone is included in Recording Preflight.
  • Verify the selected microphone and run Test Inputs.
  • Confirm macOS Microphone permission is granted.
Smart Rivet does not create steps
  • Confirm Input Monitoring is granted and the session is not paused.
  • Confirm clicks occur inside the selected scope.
  • Confirm ScreenRivet itself is not the selected target.
Control names are generic
  • Enable Use Control Names.
  • Grant optional Accessibility access.
  • Smart Rivet remains usable without Accessibility permission.
Export permission error
  • Use Choose… in the Export Guide window.
  • Select the destination through the macOS file or folder chooser.
  • Do not rely on typing a filesystem path.
Standalone HTML does not show images
  • Keep index.html and the exported assets folder together.
  • Open index.html with Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or another web browser.
  • Do not use TextEdit as the HTML viewer.

Recording and guide storage

ScreenRivet stores working data locally inside the application container and writes exports only to locations you select.

Deleting data

  • Delete Rivet Sessions from the Sessions browser.
  • Delete saved screenshots, recordings, or exports through Finder.
  • Clear Recent Captures to remove selected local history entries.

Include your ScreenRivet version, macOS version, Mac model, steps to reproduce, and a screenshot of the error where appropriate. Do not send passwords or confidential screenshots.
